04. Carlos Arniches' birthplace - Doctor Balmis Square

Playwright Carlos Arniches was born on San Francisco Street (formerly Sagasta Street) in 1866. San Fernando Street offers a good variety of stately homes where Alicante bourgeoisie lived at the beginning of the 20th century. Bardín House (headquarters of Alicante Institute of Culture, named after writer Juan Gil-Albert) is a good example. In Dr. Balmis Square we can find one of the best preserved anti-aircraft shelters of the Spanish Civil War.

 

From Gabriel Miró Square we will head towards the Old Town.
